OFA Ad Targets Tea Party Republicans For Shutting Down The Government

Organizing for Action, the 501(c)(4) “dark money” group that succeeded President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, released a new ad on Monday targeting Tea Party Republicans for their refusal to pass a budget that would end the weeklong government shutdown.

The ad, which will run nationally, highlights statements made by Representatives Todd Rokita (R-IN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Michele Bachmann (R-MN), which dismiss the urgency of the government shutdown.

“The government shutdown is hurting veterans, seniors, and our kids,” the ad’s narrator says. “Now Tea Party Republicans are threatening an economic shutdown—refusing to pay our nation’s bills, endangering American jobs.”

“Tell them to stand up to the Tea Party,” the ad continues over an image of House leaders. “Enough already.”

OFA is going on the offensive to emphasize the root cause of the budget impasse and the government shutdown. Recent polls have shown Republicans in a vulnerable position due to their continued refusal to pass a budget that funds the government without defunding or delaying the Affordable Care Act. Tea Party Republicans have spearheaded this effort to the dissatisfaction of a majority of voters and donors, potentially endangering their House majority in 2014.
